02How we read the evidence
The strongest publicly available evidence comes from long yield series: forty-nine years of data from three countries show winter production tracking June–August rainfall, while too much autumn rain works against the following harvest. That is a population-level relationship, not a promise about any single season or forest.
The Istrian picture is reported: hunters publicly attribute smaller finds to drought, violent rains and deforestation. Their testimony is an attributed voice from practice, not an independent measurement series; both kinds of evidence stand separately labelled on this page.
