Istrian truffles, documented.
Species, seasons, geography, businesses and knowledge about truffles in Istria — connected to sources, evidence and clearly marked levels of certainty.
The phrase “Istrian truffle” is not the name of a single biological species. Istrian truffles encompass the documented Tuber species associated with Istria: hypogeous fungi that grow in symbiosis with tree roots. The most prized is the white truffle (Tuber magnatum), whose season runs from autumn into January and peaks through the autumn months. Black truffles are documented alongside it: the summer truffle (Tuber aestivum) through the warmer part of the year and the winter truffle (Tuber melanosporum) from December into early spring. For every species, this project maintains public records with the origin of each claim.

01Selected records
These records show how biology, Istria and practical questions connect.
02How do we know?
The system does not treat every sentence as the same kind of truth. A claim carries its source, evidence type and the boundary of what that source can support.
Example: Motovun Forest → Tuber magnatum
A scientific source directly supports the forest–white-truffle relationship in a study context. That is not the same as a public hunting spot, a confirmed polygon or proof for every location in the region.
03Istria: place and context
The geography of Istrian truffles connects places and landscapes with sources, measurements and clear boundaries around what is evidenced.
Central Istria is the most deeply covered part of the register and geography: Motovun, Livade and Buzet have public records, and Motovun Forest and the Mirna Valley are the two landscapes with the most evidence — scientific studies, historical accounts and measured relations to species.

04A directory without ranking
A structured view of businesses connected with Istrian truffles, assembled from verifiable public sources.
There is no paid ranking, rating or recommendation. A record shows what was established and from which source.
The directory today follows truffle businesses in nine countries: Croatia, Italy, France, Slovenia, Spain, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Greece. Verified identity opens a full record with sources and a last-checked date; incompletely verified businesses remain short listed rows until the evidence suffices.
05Knowledge as verification
Knowledge topics explain biology and practice without blending scientific evidence, commercial guidance and legal status.
