Istrian White Truffle: PDO Status

The protected designation status, the registration procedure and what the label proves — and what it does not.

The procedure has a visible chronology: national application and notice with an objection window, provisional national protection from the application’s submission to the European Commission (as announced by the applicant), then verification in the official EU register until the final decision. This page states the status as of its sources with the review date shown at the top and does not use the name as a generic synonym for every white truffle from Istria.

A protected designation of origin regulates production against a written specification. Its status is neither a chemical species test nor proof of the exact harvest location of an individual fruiting body.

  • registration procedure registered designation

The status can change; the designation is protected only once entered in the EU register.

  • species origin

The white truffle is Tuber magnatum; the species name does not prove country or forest of origin.
